The economic losses of COVID-19 pandemic are substantial for the global economy. Yet, the scale of the coronavirus impacts on various economies and their political, economic and security outcomes cannot be equal.

The new report states that the governments have proposed different strategies for fighting against its economic outcomes. Moreover, international institutions such as OECD and IMF and consulting firms like McKinsey & Company have outlined their outlook for the global economy based on various scenarios that as guidelines could be beneficial for different economies. Nevertheless, if serious and preventive management is not provided, in short term, the turbulences that the novel virus would create over the global economy could be irreversible. In view of these issues, the present report is an attempt to illustrate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy and the measures that have been taken or should be taken in the face of this crisis.

The studies regarding the economic outcomes of the coronavirus pandemic in different countries show that the most significant hurdles that countries are facing with this crisis that could even have negative impacts in the post-coronavirus period are unemployment and job loss that has unfortunately stricken Iran, too. Thus, the states are devising various support programs in order to maintain jobs and keep the economy thriving.

The report is originally prepared by Dr. Leili Niakan, IRC Research Deputy and Saideh Rajaee Harandi, Researcher.
