Master Thesis Jointly Supported by IRC and ATU
A recently accomplished thesis entitled “The Impact of Sanctions on the Shipping Insurance Demands Rate” was jointly supported by Insurance Research Center (IRC) and Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU).

The supported thesis has been accomplished by Said Goudarzi, Master’s in Economic Sciences at Allameh Tabataba'i University and was supervised by Dr. Seyyed MohammadReza Seyyed Nourani and adviced by Dr. Teymour Mohammadi and Dr. Nasrin Hozzar Moghadam, according to PRIAO, IRC.

In this thesis project, the impact of sanctions on the shipping insurance was analyzed using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method and the main factor in the model – in this case, written premium in shipping insurance - was derived from Bimeh Markazi Annual Insurance Statistics for the period of 1972-2018.

The results of the study show a negative impact of the sanction on the shipping insurance demand. In order to analyze the sanctions’ impact on shipping line demand, a short-term and a long-term estimations were ran that the results of which indicated the insignificance of the sanctions’ impacts.

In the research project, the correlation between the three sectors namely agriculture, industry, and services and shipping insurance demand was examined. The short- and long-term estimation, however, indicated that the economic growth in agriculture, industry, and services sectors have significant and meaningful effect on the shipping insurance demands.
