Theme: Climate Change and the Insurance Industry

The Iranian Journal of Insurance Research (IJIR)—a Grade A, peer-reviewed quarterly journal published by the Insurance Research Center (IRC)—invites original research papers for a special issue dedicated to Climate Change and Insurance. This issue aims to explore the intersection of climate risk and insurance innovation, offering a platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to contribute to the evolving discourse on climate resilience through insurance mechanisms.

Scope and Topics

Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

Natural hazards and the insurance industry: earthquakes, floods, droughts, storms, and heatwaves
Climate-related risks
Impacts of climate change on the insurance industry
Design and pricing of insurance products covering climate-related risks
Application of advanced technologies (AI, parametric insurance, blockchain, GLS, and remote sensing) for identifying, measuring, and modeling climate risks, aggregating data in areas lacking statistical information, and developing specialized models with dedicated functionalities
Insurance as a tool for implementing climate change policies
Alignment of Iranian insurance regulations with international standards for climate risk management
Design of appropriate instruments for financing climate-related losses: challenges and solutions
Governmental support policies for climate risk management
Socioeconomic impacts of climate change and the role of insurance
Legal challenges and requirements for climate risk disclosure and their impact on market transparency
Successful public-private partnership models in climate risk management
