According to PRIAO, in the first meeting of the scientific committee of 1st ICII, the members of the research council of IRC, scientific members from various local and global academic institutes including INCEIF University, IIUM, MUISEF, TSEV, Taibah University, Kings Career Academy, DMCC, and RISC Institute participated. In the meeting, a report on the actions taken by the secretary of the conference was presented.
Initially, Dr. Mehran Rezvani, Scientific Secretary of 1st ICII, provided the details of the main themes of the conference, important dates, paper review and acceptance procedures, conference day events, keynote speeches, paper presentation, scientific panels, expo of innovations and insurance publications, and 10 anticipated post-events.
The main themes were introduced as ‘Innovative Synergy of Insurance and Takaful’, ‘Takaful, Insurance, and Risk Management’, ‘Regulatory Challenges and Corporate Governance in Insurance and Takaful’, ‘Innovation, New Product Development and Smart Coverage in Insurance and Takaful’, ‘Human Capital Competencies in Insurance and Takaful Structure’, ‘Emergence of Micro-Takaful and Life Insurance based on the Islamic Law’, ‘Action Plans of Takaful and Insurance Towards Establishing A New Insurance Company’, and ‘Reinsurance and Re-Takaful’.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Asgari called for the international members of the scientific committee of 1st ICII to recruit academicians from their institutes in order to have a proper setting for sharing experiences and expertise in the conference.
Dr. Mehmet Asutay, Professor of Durham University Business School and the Director of the Durham Doctoral Training Session for Islamic Economics and Finance pointed to the limited number of papers published in the areas of takaful and called for the ICII’s secretary to invite as many experts in takaful as possible in order to share their papers and manuscripts.
Mohd Radzuan Mohamed, CEO of Malaysian Takaful Association agreed with the timing of the conference and emphasized on the goals and missions of IRC in formulating the conference’ objectives.
Prof. Dr. Amir Akramin Shafie, Director of Research Management Center, IIUM, agreed with the time of the conference and mentioned that he had contacted several of his colleagues in order to participate in the conference. He also expressed IIUM’s readiness to help the conference with any means possible.
In her speech, Prof. Dr. Nurdianawati Irwani Bt. Abdullah, Associate Professor in Laws and Shari’ah at Department of Finance, Kuliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS), IIUM, highlighted the significance of the subjects such as financial management, regulatory challenges, corporate governance, smart marketing strategies, and distribution network in the subthemes of the conference.
Mr. Bal Gubal Ghoderao, CEO of Kings Careers Academy, UAE, pointed to the traditional takaful products and mixed models and mentioned that the Academy was commenced to work on new takaful products and expressed his willingness to know more on the implementation of AI in conventional insurance and takaful.
“There has been an extensive study on takaful and re-takaful”, Dr. Mahdi Riahifar, Advisor to the President of CII in Health Insurances, and added, “all the presented issues in this meeting will be reviewed and addressed in the revising the main themes of the conference.”
Dr. Shahram Rezapour, Professor of Shahid Madani University and Advisor to the Director General of IRC, pointed to the future programs of IRC on the modern innovation in takaful and asked the audiences to share their knowledge and expertise with IRC in this regard.
