Asset Linked Insurance: Preserving Policyholders’ Capital Value in Inflationary Conditions
The 31st session of the Insurance Industry Think Tank was held under the theme “Asset Linked Insurance in Iran: Opportunities, Challenges, and Implementation Requirements,” bringing together industry leaders and experts to examine the role of innovative insurance products in responding to current economic conditions.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Office of the Insurance Research Center (IRC), the session featured a presentation by Mitra Ghanbarzadeh, a faculty member at IRC, who outlined the concept of asset linked insurance and discussed its opportunities, challenges, and regulatory requirements.

Shima Ara, Deputy CEO of Saman Insurance Company, highlighted the declining attractiveness of traditional life insurance policies in an inflationary environment. She noted that asset linked insurance products can help safeguard the real value of policyholders’ capital by linking policy values to underlying assets such as capital market instruments and economic development projects. She also described the newly introduced life insurance regulation as a suitable framework for the development of innovative insurance products.

Alireza Hadi, CEO of Tejaratno Insurance Company, likewise emphasized the importance of maintaining the real value of policyholders’ savings. He noted that asset linked structures can be applied not only in investment oriented insurance products but also in life insurance, annuity plans, and term life policies. According to Hadi, enhancing investment transparency and adapting regulatory frameworks to accommodate such products are key prerequisites for the development of this segment.
Sajjad Ramandi, CEO of Karizma Life Insurance Company, and Mehdi Nourouzi, CEO of Middle East Life Insurance Company, also underscored the importance of developing new product designs, utilizing the capacities of the capital market, and expanding investment instruments within the insurance industry.

Participants in the session identified asset linked insurance as a significant pathway for the development of life insurance products and for strengthening the linkage between the insurance industry and the capital market.
